Don't get me wrong, I am not a Valentine's Day fanatic, but what if the current marketing of Valentine's day molded in a concept of "self-love" also and, for that matter, all types of love? I see this as a really positive shift away from the selling of just chocolate and couple-related activities...which don't get me wrong I love the day after Valentine's Day so I can snag 50% off dark chocolate salted caramels...ok...I digress...BUT I think that the way people view Valentine's Day is sometimes quite pessimistic due to this current market of what the holiday is supposed to represent.

What are your thoughts on the holiday?

If I had it my way the holiday would represent "love" in it's purest and most universal form. That's a holiday that I would celebrate.

It's hard to avoid the feelings of being single on Valentine's Day, but my favorite way to celebrate it is Leslie Knope (Parks & Rec) style and do a Galentine's Day instead:

"Oh, it's only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It's like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas."

Hi @LeighaSommer I hear you on this. It's a very commercial holiday pretty much created by Hallmark. I sense that people are trying to broaden Valentine's day to be more about all kinds of relationships. But the mainstream advertisers definitely keep it centering more around romantic ones.
