When I first moved to the United States as a kindergartner, I was incredibly behind in my reading level. This meant I spent quite a bit of time in my elementary school library with my incredibly patient and kind teacher Mrs.Hutchinson. My teacher truly nurtured my love for reading and turned the shy, kindergartner who was terrified of books into a bookworm.

From Mary Pope Osbourne's Magic Tree House to Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights, novels have changed my life. They've affected my perspective, my knowledge, my values, and made me who I am today. Though I don't have as much free time to read as I did when I was younger, it's still one of my favorite pastimes and I do it as often as I can.

What books have changed your life and what books are you reading right now?

The Gilda Joyce series will always be one of my favorites. It shaped my personality and influenced my decisions in elementary and early middle school, as the spunky, fearless heroine of the novels taught me how to deal with social situations.

I loved Blink by Marcus Gladwell. It's a must-read. Also "The Coldest Winter Ever" by Sister Souljah

I loved Blink and I'll definitely add "The Coldest Winter Ever" to my list. Do you think you lean more towards memoirs or fiction literature?

A book that I fell in love with was The Great Gatsby, and it's probably one that's changed my life. I feel the same about novels like Lord of the Flies and Anna Karenina. Some of the other novels that left an impact on me forever are a little less mature and have definitely shaped me as a person. Books like Six by Seuss, The Mysterious Benedict Society, Chasing Vermeer, Looking for Alaska, First Year, and (believe it or not, my gateway into YA novels) The Hunger Games have left the biggest impact on me, because they are books that I truly love and will cherish forever. Right now, I have no time to read! But my goal over the summer is to start reading books like 1984, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and Backlash: The Undeclared War Against American Women.

@Mihika Sharma We'll have to sit down and vent about our favorite books because we have really similar tastes. I love classics as well, Anna Karenina, Great Gatsby, War and Peace, and Wuthering Heights have really changed my life. Dystopian literature fascinates me as well. Suzanne Collins' writing can still bring tears to my eyes as well. I need to read Looking for Alaska and the rest of the John Green novels this summer though, I seem to have missed the train on those novels. I'm sure you'll love 1984 and Backlash though, they really changed my perspective and are powerful novels. Keep me updated as you read them; I'd love to hear your thoughts.
