Hello Academy of Art University Hub,
I am thinking of creating a national campaign about diversity (sex, race, age) in the workplace, in tech & STEM, and with equal pay.
I want to build a more diverse and inclusive STEM and tech community around the world. It's 2017 and I still wake up to headlines about racial discrimination, sexual discrimination, gender discrimination, age discrimination, and every other form of discrimination in the workplace, in the hiring process, and in equal pay. Not only does this need to end, we need to stand up as women, people of all colors, and of all ages because not only does the current status quo prevent our communities from reaching their full potential, but Women and People of all Colors and Ages in STEM, in the professional world, or in any industry should be allowed access to equal opportunity and equal pay.
The campaign I am thinking of would be executed on social media. Participants would record themselves making a pledge to end the diversity gap or can take a photo of themselves with a symbol and insert the pledge in a caption. The symbol would be an origami swan which represents the rising glory of a new day and the setting of an old one. We figure this symbol would help unite us all by being the visual representation of what we are standing for. Participants who’ve experienced discrimination in some manner would be encouraged to share their stories and participants could express the type of future they demand in terms of equal opportunity and pay.
With being said, I was wondering if anyone in this hub would be interested in participating a campaign to bring awareness to this issue and joining me in this effort?
(I'm just trying to gauge if people in this hub would be interested. As more people seem interested we will make an official announcement regarding details like dates for the campaign etc.)
Also open to suggestions, feedback, thoughts regarding it as well.
