Howdoyoudealwithaveryloud,tinyopenofficespace?

Raquel Bonilla

Sometimes I feel I'm about to loose my mind, especially when there are a million conversations going on at the same time. How does anyone else deal with a very loud, tiny open office space? You can't wear headphones all the time, mind you.

Is there another space you can go and work, like the lobby? @Raquel Bonilla

@Bethany Heinrich, there's an office that's usually empty. However, you can't rely on it being available all the time and unfortunately, at times my job demands being in my workstation available for inquiries. Going to an empty office or meeting room is almost a treat (or a must!) when you really need to focus. But what to do when it's not available? Thanks for the reply.

That's tricky. I usually put in headphones and listen to NPR, a Ted Talk or soothing music. Hearing a podcast of some sort is great too

so...ii listen to lots of podcasts on personal and professional growth...although you can't wear headphones all the time, find a subject that you desire growth in and find podcasts of interest to you...it provides a kind of white noise while working, but at the same time, you pick up nuggets of information that stick with you on your subject(s) of interest...after which, you take your maximum time-limit break and walk, get some tea, water, jello, whatever:)...then go learn something new:)

I stagger my working hours by coming very late and leaving with the cleaners. Some days I have to endure 20 minutes of vacuum roar in the evening. But most of my work gets done after 6 pm, at the rate of 2:1,  meaning I can get twice as much work done in one evening hour, compared to two hours during daytime. It's a price to pay, but mornings belong to me. What a failed idea that whole open office concept. Works well for the executives, as they hide in their private offices and come out to bother others when they want to.
