I started birth control at the age of 18 once I started college for acne. I stayed on Sprintec 28 day pack for 2 years until I realized that it was too much hormones and I started breaking out again. I just got put on a new pack, for the first week I started it, I broke out kinda bad probably due to a change in hormones and stress but its now week 2 and my skin is a lot better. What are your guys' experiences with birth control?

I have heard people having bad experiences, but it has been a lifesaver for me. I went on it around 18 as well for hormone imbalances and PCOS. I did switch doses from heavier to lighter once my hormones got more balanced – it's important to keep your OBGYN updated with how it's making you feel! But overall, birth control has made everything more regular, lighter and significantly less painful.

that's amazing @alliealliem! I'm so happy that BC has saved your life and your experience has been great so far :) I think I'm on the same boat as you too because i had a major hormone imbalance throughout high school with the really bad acne and periods were extremely irregular and painful. Ever since I started birth control, my skin has been wonderful and I've gained so much confidence. My periods are a lot more tolerable too! Much love girl! <3

All of them have side effects. Some side effects are same for all but each has its individual effects.

I took tri sprintec for almost two years too. It made my periods really light and short, which I loved, but it made me sooooo emotional. I literally cried all the time, so I stopped.

I've recently started taking it for acne and have seen an amazing difference in my skin, although it kind of made me nauseous at the start. My doctor told me that working out regularly and drinking a lot of water will help regulate the added hormones. Once I started the nausea I felt in the beginning disappeared!

@Maddy Bernstein Yes! that has been happening a lot to me too when I was on my previous brand of BC. Lowered sex drive was never an issue though. I'm only on week 2 of my new BC so I hope it goes well :)

Unfortunately I ended up stopping with the pill. I've been researching Nexplanon and IUDs in hope that maybe one of them will work without such bad side effects. The copper IUD isn't hormonal, so it might not be as bad, but I've heard it causes more painful cramps.

I've been using the same pill for the last two years, but for a while it didn't really affect me too much. Then, I tried to switch birth control methods, to NuvaRing, and it messed with me. I got these crazy mood swings, completely lethargic and depressed.
Then I switched back to my original method and it affects me more than it did before, I'm not really sure what changed. My anxiety went up, I get weird cramps, and some other not so great side effects.
