I believe that the current grading and education system is inefficient and does not set the future generation for success. What do we gain from memorizing formulas or learning about things that we will probably never use or hear ever again? In addition, our grades are not an accurate representation of us because what if someone is bad at an subject, recieves a bad grade, GPA gets pulled down, and good colleges won't accept them yet they thrive in other subjects?

I definitely think that our education reform needs expansive reform. Our grades are more often than not based on rote memorization and we're constantly competing against our peers. I think grading is important to ensure consistent improvement but I believe that students should be encouraged learn. Rather than striving for that 4.0 GPA, we should be striving to better ourselves as individuals and students. I know I'm being hypocritical since I've shed my fair share of tears over academic disappointments but it's something I'm working on. @Eric Enriquez How do you think we should change the grading system?

I believe the grading system inaccurately measures students abilities. I feel I've become prone to memorizing information, regurgitating it on a test, and completely dismissing it seconds after. We have been wired to take and pass a test, it's almost as if it's at a higher importance than processing and understanding what the information entails.

I think that the grading system sets too high of standards for students. Not only does it create unnecessary competition but it creates stress. In some other countries they are graded with numbers or levels. But I think that the grading systems around the world add a lot of pressure to students’ lives.

I agree with the fact that it creates competition and stress, but think that the competition that it creates is quite necessary in pushing and motivating students to actively keep on maintaining and improving their academic scores. I believe that when students are competing to succeed that is the time that they learn the most, but most of the time it is just a grind to do good on a test and then forgetting the information.

I totally see where you’re coming from. However this grading system allows students to cram information and compete to get the best score on a test which they will forget after they take. I for one can barely remember questions the minute I turn the test in

Yup! It’s almost like students are too busy competing and trying to get good grades that they don’t actually learn anything.

I definitely think that not only the grading system, but the entire education system should change. It’s not realistic anymore. Memorizing formulas, anatomy, etc. can all be very helpful, but isn’t really relevant anymore. The most relevant skill right now is media loterscy, how to research, and how to find important information on our own. Not regurgitation!

I agree! We use the same grading system for so long ago and with curriculum changes it stresses out students way too much!
