Is there anyone out there who can help me understand what the Trump administration is doing in keeping kids apart from their parents?

What sort of message is it sending other than that they are weaponizing and using kids to make a statement? It's terrible.

I saw that Laura Bush spoke out recently. I'm very curious to see how the Trump administration is going to respond to the major backlash happening on this topic. @Samir Goel @Modern Mom @ace @DailyClout @Erica Gordon @Shantel Risher  what are your reactions to these kids being separated from their parents at the border?

For one of the first times in NYAToday's history, our entire staff condemns this policy. What is occurring is undeniably morally repugnant, but the fact that members of the Trump administration have the audacity to say that news networks are somehow reporting unjustly on this matter is infuriating. NYAToday always does our best to be objective on all issues, but objectivity does not mean silence - not does it mean neutrality. When it comes to this practice, it's been used in Russia as a way to torture people - the UN has called it torture - and it is a major change in policy. While, undeniably, kids have been separated from families in prior instances, it was not a matter of policy until now. Now, this is occurring on a frequent basis.

In many cases, the Trump administration has insinuated that these parents who bring their children over illegally are irresponsible. How can fighting to save your child from gun violence, airstrikes, human trafficking, and more egregious phenomena be seen as irresponsible? If anything, it should be seen as parents trying to do the best for their children. It's not easy to simply cross over legally - it takes years in many cases. Many of these families don't have years - they could die tomorrow.
