BeingEffectiveRatherThanJustBeingBusy

This is a lifestyle trend that's been on my mind for a while now; I feel as though more often than not I'm busy but not effective. As opposed to constantly working, I've been trying to maximize productivity and make sure I'm not just wasting excessive amounts of time on the same task.

How do you all make sure you're being effective and not just busy? Do you have any planning techniques or attitudes you prefer; is there any strategy that you've found maximizes success for you?

I love the idea of working well vs. working hard. I used to equate the longer I worked meant I was being more productive. Not true. If you can find a balance of working very focused to get things done, then it leaves time to go develop other areas of your life.

You're completely right; it's difficult to find success without balancing your time working. I love that you brought up the time it frees up, it's useless to be constantly working if you don't have time to pursue other interests or spend time with family and friends.

To be effective, you first need to understand and name your priorities and specific goals; then you have to focus your thoughts and actions on accomplishing those goals. There will inevitably be other things that take up your time, but how much time you give them and where you prioritize them on your list of tasks should be based on how they are related to your goals. I recently found this article and a friend said the process it describes has made a significant impact on her life: https://www.fastcompany.com/40558369/i-used-this-simple-chart-to-prioritize-my-crazy-busy-work-life.

This is great advice, thanks for the sharing the article. Planning out your time is really important and it seems as though this strategy could help with that. Have you had the chance to try it? Is there another planning strategy you've found success with?
