Hi! I'm Kim Vō. I'm a master colorist, TV personality, entrepreneur, artist and part-time interior designer! I have four salons and am most often seen coloring the heads of Hollywood at my salon at the Montage Hotel in Beverly Hills. I love what I do and travel the world teaching people about hair and sharing my creativity. As Schwarzkopf Professional's BLONDME Global Ambassador, I get to talk about my favorite subject, BLONDES! I was hailed by Vogue as “the best blonder in the business.”No matter how many stylists I meet, every one I talk to inspires me and reminds me why being in the hair industry is so wonderful. I am a true businessman - I love working hard. I know, it sounds crazy. But being an immigrant, you are taught early on to go make your dreams happen and I have never stopped! My clients are from all walks of life - I've colored the hair of so many notable celebrities - from Kate Hudson and her mom Goldie Hawn, Kylie Jenner and Jessica Alba,  Jennifer Aniston to Pamela Anderson, Britney Spears and Katy Perry.

I have had the pleasure of giving advice and being featured in hundreds of magazines.  You might remember me as one of the judges on BRAVO's “Shear Genius." I will be returning to TV next spring! So exciting! I jump-started my professional training in New York over twenty years ago, later moving to Beverly Hills where I honed my craft in the art and science of hair color. Soon my talent caught the attention of L’Oréal and I joined their team as a Master Colorist, where I traveled to Europe and began an in-depth study of cutting-edge French technology in the beauty realm, a passion inspired by my French-Vietnamese heritage, which helped catapult my career. I pioneered many modern techniques like “American tailoring,” hair “dusting” and “smudging,”which I am proud to say, are used by colorists everywhere today. I have also earned several accolades including Behind The Chair’s “2014 Stylist of the Year.” Always evolving my unique approach to color and hair design, I am continuously striving for new and inventive ways to perfect my artistry.

My business ownership started in 2000 with B2V Salon in West Hollywood, which led to the first state-of-the-art namesake salon at the MGM Mirage Las Vegas. In 2008, I opened the Kim Vō Salon at Montage Beverly Hills and the following year I took up residency at the Montage Laguna Beach and Montage Deer Valley. Each signature Kim Vō Salon features the industry’s top colorists and stylists, innovative design, and an unwavering passion to providing a truly luxurious and individualized experience for the most discerning clientele. It's a beautiful place to work. I feel like Elouise at The Plaza!

In 2012, I was named Global Blonding Ambassador for Schwarzkopf Professional. I traveled to the Schwarzkopf Professional Global Headquarters to support and bring BLONDME, a collection of premium blonde hair color, care and styling care, to life.

Blondes are everything to me--it's what I'm known for! With one in four women being blonde,I've been searching for years for the perfect color system to create the multi-dimension my clients crave, the intense care they need and maximum coverage. Schwarzkopf Professional’s BLONDME gives this and so much more; it's blonde perfection in a bottle.

Hi @Kim Vo ! Such an honor to have you on Mogul today. What would be the step-by-step process for an Asian woman with dark brown/black hair to dye her hair blond? Also, how would she maintain it? Asking for a friend. ;)

Oh honey that’s a novel at a salon over many hour. And I’d love to give you that look. This is not for the faint of heart.

It takes time and maintenance but it’s the super blond of the moment and you would look amazing with this look. Let’s do it!!!!

Hi Kim-I see that you have your own product line. What product would you be lost without when styling curly and making it straight? Thank you.

One more....as a (bottle) blonde who continues on a quest to go lighter and lighter, how can I do it without damaging my hair?

What is your favorite professional color product that you use on your clients - given today's health concern for least damaging products to our bodies (that provide low ammonia content, etc)?

I think long hair is still in but it won’t be as long. I love the décolleté length lob. Color trends it’s still cool tones. The evolution of ombré is now more about baby lights connecting the ombré so it’s a more blended look.

I would use a weekly mask and dedicate yourself to that for at least 2 months and stay away from over-using hot tools

Like curling irons. Shwarzkopf Professional has a great keratin bonding mask in the BLONDME line.

Because they are the most complex

Color to master but what I find is that they are a personality not just a color. To match that personality to the color is the ultimate perfection.

Reality TV is exactly what you think - it’s crazy. But so much fun. I love working with such creative people. I always learn so much from the contestants. And I will actually be doing another reality show next spring 2018 called THE LOOK ALL STARS. How have I stayed grounded? Botox. Just kidding. I have never forgotten where I came from. I am immigrant and proud to achieve my American Dream.

Hi Tarn! What a great question! I would do my mom’s hair because she is such an important person in my life. Hair tip - I always say Do you want to whisper, talk or shout? Which means do you want a little change or a full makeover? Know your personality and know what it takes to maintain the look.

The language of hairis different from coast to coast. The blondes on the west coast like to be ultra blonde while the east coast likes to be more subtle and natural. So I had to adapt to my new Beverly Hills environment.

Absolutely!! I have had clients from all ethnic backgrounds and races my entire career. From Angela Bassett to Shiva Safai, I love creating lighter hues on darker hair. My advice is to take baby steps and have a 6 month plan with your hairdresser so you do it slowly and so you don’t shock the hair.
