Hi! I'm Thalía. I was born Ariadna Thalía Sodi Miranda on August 26, 1971 in Mexico City, Mexico. I am a successful Latin Grammy-awarded Mexican singer and actress. I am amongst Mexico's most famous telenovela actresses and I have sold more than 25 million albums worldwide.

In 1981, I started my musical career as a vocalist in the Mexican child group Din Din. I performed in the music festival Juguemos a Cantar as a member of the group and later, as a soloist. As a vocalist, I am considered a mezzo-soprano. In 1984, I was cast in the teenage version of the stage production Grease, being cast in the lead role of Sandy. In 1986, I replaced one of the original female vocalists of Timbiriche, Sasha Sokol. That same year, I was cast in her first soap opera, Pobre Señorita Limantour. In 1988, she starred in the Mexican telenovela Quinceañera, after which she went to Los Angeles, California to prepare for a solo career.

In 2000, I starred in the independent film, Mambo Café, a modest Hollywood production in which I played a young Puerto Rican girl, alongside Danny Aiello, Paul Rodriguez, and Rosanna de Soto. Later that year, on December 2, 2000, I happily married the former president of Sony Music, Tommy Mottola, at St. Patrick's Cathedral, New York in a three-million dollar ceremony and reception. We currently live in New York City with our two children.
I have also worked as a record producer, composer, TV and radio host, fashion designer, magazine editor, and model. I have also been a guest on television programs like Entertainment Tonight, El Show de Cristina, Good Morning America, Hard Copy, The Rosie O'Donnell Show and 20/20. In 2007, I joined the ABC Network in order to start the radio program "The Conexión Thalía Radio Show," where I talked about music, fashion, news and political issues.

On December 1, 2009 I released my latest musical work called "Thalia En Primera Fila." I am anticipating the debut of my new HBO documentary 15: A Quinceañera Story, a collection of four short documentary films following five Latina girls from different cultural, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds as they transition to adulthood, all observing the traditional rite of passage of the quinceañera, a celebration of their 15th birthdays.

The documentary chronicles the girls and their families as they navigate the complexities of coming of age in the U.S. From grappling with gender identity to the constant fear of having a loved one deported, the issues raised in each piece reflect the current cultural and political landscape. It debuts on December 19th.

A quote from the trailer is "don't grow up too fast" what advice would you give to your children about "growing up" and enjoying their time as a young person?

Hola Thalia, we are birthday twin! Watching the trailer of Quinceneara, do you feel these girls represent what it is to be Latino in the U.S. in today's society? Also I enjoyed the comment of one of the girl's, that a Quinceneara brings her closer to her roots. I didn't have one because I felt that I didn't have to expose myself letting everyone know "I'm a women now". Unfortunately the history behind a Quinceneara in the Spanish (Spain) culture, where it started, isn't positive. Thank you for what you are doing as a mother as well.

Hola Thalia! I've been a big fan my whole life and grew up listening to your music in Guadalajara. I have two questions! What is your favorite place to visit in Mexico? And what advice would you give to young women starting their career in the arts?

Hi @Thalia it's wonderful to have you as a guest on AAM! Could you talk about what it's like to break into the entertainment industry in Mexico? What is the process?
