Hi! I'm Star Jones. I'm an attorney, former New York City homicide prosecutor, business executive, best-selling author and an Emmy award nominated TV host.

I'm presently a member of the Board of Directors and President of Professional Diversity Network, a publicly traded company (NASDAQ: IPDN). I lead a nationwide team dedicated to supporting and advocating for IPDN’s over 10-million member network of diverse job-seekers.

I'm also National Spokesperson for IPDN’s new subsidiary, the International Association of Women (IAW) based in the US and China that now provides expanded networking and career opportunities for nearly 1,000,000 diverse professional women members globally in the over 100 local US and China chapters and 35,000+ virtual eChaptermembers. I'm the youngest amongst a small group of African-American women helping to lead a publicly traded company in the U.S.

I'm a graduate of the American University with a degree in the Administration of Justice and the University of Houston School of Law where I received my JurisDoctorate. Law as a profession and advocacy for causes I believe in is my first love. For the last 25 years, I was and still am, a licensed attorney in the state of New York.

I've also worked in television for more than 25 years! I served as a NBC News Legal Correspondent and Commentator, and as a co-host of ABC’s The View for nine years.

Along with my View colleagues, I'm a 2017 Inductee into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall Of Fame. I've been a featured personality for numerous consumer brands, and have been on the cover of and/or been featured in many major newspapers and magazines in the U.S. on topics ranging from news to lifestyle.

As an author, I've written two best-selling, non-fiction books: You Have to Stand for Something, or You'll Fall for Anything (Bantam) and Shine...a Physical, Emotional & Spiritual Journey to Finding Love (Harper Collins). My third book, the fictional Satan’s Sisters, (a fictional account of the behind-the- scenes workings of a daytime talk show) was published in 2011 and developed into "Daytime Divas," a VH1 network television series where I was an Executive Producer.

In terms of politics, I'm an active supporter of the Democratic National Committee. I've acted as an informal advisor to former chairman Howard Dean and a prolific fundraiser and a national surrogate on behalf of former President Bill Clinton, former Vice-President Al Gore, Senator John Kerry, President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

As someone who believes “to whom much is given, much is required,” I am heavily involved in numerous philanthropic efforts and have served /serves on the Board of Directors/ Trustees and led fundraising efforts for The American Ballet Theatre, Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation for Cancer Research, God’s Love We Deliver, The National Urban League, The East Harlem School at Exodus House, Girls, Inc. and Dress for Success Worldwide.

I am also a Survivor and Heart Health Advocate. In 2010, I underwent successful Open Heart Surgery, and in 2011 was named the American Heart Association’s National Volunteer. As the leader of AHA’s national GoRed heart health initiative, I was enlisted as a keynote speaker on the issue of Heart Health for the 2013 Presidential Inauguration National Day of Service. Seen throughout the 2011 season of NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice” on behalf of The American Heart Association breaking fundraising records and advocating for heart health, I am utilizing my name, voice, time and international media platform to combat cardio-vascular disease, the nations’ number one killer and champion Heart Health in America.

Lastly, I am a motivational speaker. I frequently lecture on a variety of topics, including law, politics, race, gender equality, networking, women’s empowerment, pop culture, fitness and heart health.

Now's your chance to ask me anything! Please write your questions in the comments section below and I'll answer the questions live on Monday, April 2nd at 2pm ET.

My favorite memory from The View is the sisterhood! No matter how opinionated we all were on camera, behind the scenes many of us formed a friendship that still exists today.

As for exciting initiatives, we launched earlier this year The International Association of Women (https://www.iawomen.com)and I am excited to help women globally in person and online reach their career goals and dream, rise, and lead! What an exciting time to be a phenomenal woman!

I really enjoyed your time on The Apprentice and I love reality shows and I think you have a great personality for TV. Would you ever do another reality show like Celebrity Big Brother, Survivor, Amazing Race, etc?

Every one of those women are phenomenal and I wish them the best! As president of The International Association of Women I’m really happy to see such a diverse group of strong women continuing to move the national conversation forward. I am one of the few people who can say she had a successful run as a daily presence on television for 25 years. Today, that’s not my focus. So no I would not return to The View!

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy going on TV advocating for things I believe in like heart healthy living, diversity and inclusion, gender equality and pay equity. However, helping women and diverse professionals build their network and find that perfect job, career path or networking connection is what brings me great joy today. I’m truly blessed in that, as my mother / grandmother so astutely proclaim…”You are already ‘Star Jones;’ no one can take that away from you, so we don’t need to see your face on TV every day. Every once in a while is just fine.”

Hollywood is so judgmental. What do you think about ladies who have weight loss surgery vs diet and exercise. Is that the easy way out?

For women who have extreme health problems due to weight there is no easy way out. I think regaining control of your life and staying alive should be done by any means necessary that are supported by your doctor.

Hollywood is very judgemental but women in or out Hollywood must make the best decision for them their life literally depends on it!

I think and hope the aftermath is here to stay. I hope this generation of men has been watching and are reminded of the repercussions that take place when you don't understand that no means no. And I hope women will remember to never be silent about sexual assault and or harassment!

I don't believe any young woman should limit herself. The worst thing to do is dedicate yourself to a career that you are not passionate about and get stuck there! Being young is a great time to explore talents and see which one you want to make a career out of. At some point you want to be known and branded for something specific but there is no rule book that says you can only be great at one thing or you have to choose your final career by age 25!

I can say that I always felt called to do something great. I always felt the push to succeed in me even before my career really started.

I understand finances can seem to hold any dream back. But it is 2018 and there are many ways to succeed and there is no shortage of self-made millionaires or super successful people who did not start with a plethora of financial resources. Always do as much as you can without financial help. You can create a blueprint, construct a business plan, study your field, research investors, educate yourself on crowd funding etc all without financial backing.

Timing really is everything. If finances, family responsibilities etc. hold you back make sure it is temporary. It can't rain forever. Get in solution mode and define the obstacles to your success and create a plan to tackle every single one of them.

Thank you Sarah!!! I enjoyed my time on The View! Discussing hot topics with women I respect and getting to be opinionated and speak my mind on such a large platform was a great experience. I also enjoyed interviewing so many actors, actresses, and artists etc who I admired. It was a great time and I go back often when I can to chat with the new and ever changing panel of ladies. I always feel so welcomed there!

Great question! My first advice is to not be intimidated. I cannot count how many times I sat in a boardroom meeting as the only female or only black person. Be great at what you do and let your work speak for itself. I would also advise you to be tough! Unfortunately, your colleagues and peers will constantly remind you that you are in a male dominated field. Whether the insults or belittling is conscious or subconscious they will not let you forget that you are the minority. Listen, the men don't run the show it's just more of them. Do your job like only you can and do not get distracted by statistics and underground chatter.

My favorite quote is “When opportunity meets preparation there is no job out of reach.” We can’t avoid life’s challenges and in most cases hopefully we are learning from them. But we can be better prepared for both challenges and opportunities when we properly prepare ourselves. My most important advice is to always sharpen your skills and talent. Listen, no one can work your talent quite like you! Your talent and the successful execution of it will present numerous opportunities to you your entire life. Making sure you are always doing your job/working your talent to the best of your ability is the best thing you can do for your career. Whether you are learning from mentors, taking continual education courses, attending seminars, power networking, or enhancing your brand/product, always seek ways to do what you do BETTER!

Hi @Star Jones! Nice to see you on the platform :) I used to watch The View religiously when you were on the show and have always had a lot of respect for your opinion. My question is regarding the #MeToo movement and what your advice would be for women coping with their own sexual assaults. I sometimes receive e-mails from women asking how they should approach their own ordeals with men in positions of power and I don't always have an answer because I do not want for them to endanger themselves. My question is, what would you say to a woman who has been sexually abused by a man in an authority position who does not know how to handle the ordeal (either legally, on a self-care level or otherwise)? Thank you! - Arielle

First of all, let me just say I love the #metoo movement. The success of this movement and in some cases the justice that follows it, is heavily attributed to the many women who are breaking their silence and speaking up. So my first advice to any woman of sexual assault is just that- speak up! If it happened today or 10 years ago say something. There is not a wrong way to speak up whether you confide in your HR manager etc or the police, tell your story. My other advice is to be as detailed and factual as possible. Naysayers and supporters of your perpetrator will try to deflect and speak on everything except the actual assault and or harassment. You are not responsible for answering questions and accusations about your sex life or the way you dress etc. You are responsible for stating the facts of your assault over and over again until you get the justice you deserve.

@Star Jones it's such an honor you are here. I'm so sorry you went through surgery and I hope you are okay! It's wonderful that you are now an advocate for heart health. What can we do as women to take care of our hearts starting in our 20s, early 30s? Thank you for the work you do!

Hello! Heart disease does not discriminate! It is important for every woman of every age to be aware of her heart health and take care of herself. My general advice is to move more and eat less! More specifically, make the time to “Know Your Numbers.” It’s knowledge that could save your life. Five numbers, that all women should know to take control of their heart health are:

       1. Total Cholesterol
       2. HDL (good) Cholesterol
       3. Blood Pressure
       4. Blood Sugar
       5. Body Mass Index (BMI)
