I have not but I would love to! I've never been anywhere in Asia but I am hoping work takes me there sometime. If not I'll just have to do it myself...

What was it like to be nominated for the Emmys? What are those shows like in person?? Is it really glamorous?

Are you a fan of Montana? That's cool. I've been to a few of those things and I had sort of conflicting feelings. On the one hand if you're nominated you're like lusting after victory over your friends. So that's weird. On the other hand... so many famous people! I've learned to relax and enjoy them. Now I hope they have me back! All is forgiven! Please!

Allie that's hard to say. Often it's when you're working with your close friends. I did a movie called Four Boxes. A play called These Paper Bullets. Both with tight pals which made it all the cooler.

Stop worrying about everything. That's probably for life in general. But for acting or any other creative endeavour it would be just concentrate on becoming great. Everything else is out of your control but if you get better and better it can't be denied. Think of yourself as a servant and good things come back to you.

Holy moly that's a tough one Amy. Death of a Salesman is pretty great. I did Biff as a monologue when I was younger although I was pretty much just doing a John Malkovich imitation. Peer Gynt. I think I'd like to do Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf in a few years as I age into it.

What is the Hollywood culture like? Do you prepare for theatre roles and tv/film roles differently?

Ooh Hollywood culture! It’s everything you could dream Lauren. Constant bacchanalia. And by that I mean 7-11s on almost every corner. Actually I have a great love for the city of Los Angeles. You essentially have to make your own life here. Get in a car and drive to your destination. As opposed to NY where life is sort of thrust upon you when you walk out the door. Also fun but different. The main difference between theater and tv/film is with the former you spend a month putting the whole thing together in rehearsal whereas the latter is in small chunks each day with little to no rehearsal. Much like LA and NY (callback) they are both rewarding in their own way!

Acting is weird Jill. Did you see The Florida Project? That little girl (Brooklynn Prince) was as good as anyone I’ve ever seen in a movie but I think she’s too young to have gone to Juilliard (yet). The thing that makes us respond to a performance seems harder to identify in a quantifiable way than with other art forms. Now let me contradict everything I just said. If one wants to make a life as an actor I am definitely a proponent of school. If only to get familiar with and do scenes from the great plays. And to be around people doing the same thing. I’m sure there’s plenty of good and bad out there (see the current HBO series Barry for a hilarious depiction of acting class). But the Children’s Theater Company in Minneapolis was instrumental in who I am today and then I did 2 years at Circle in the Square in NYC (also cool). So yeah man! Do it all!

Hi Justin! Thank you for participating in this. Weeds was one of my favorite shows and I wanted to ask if you have favorite season and episode from the show?

Also do you think Weeds as a show helped change the societal perception of marijuana in America?

I’m glad you asked Feven! I like the even numbered seasons of Weeds best. Many great memories from making that thing but I often go back to the one where Mary Louise and I are sitting in a car at the Mexican border waiting for a delivery. I believe that’s an episode called The Three Coolers. It’s right in the middle of the series and I just remember having a special feeling the night we shot it. I really dunno if Weeds had an impact in terms of cannabis perception or anything besides trying to make a good show. But if it did I’m down!

My downtime isn’t particularly interesting Ms. Flower (or Wall if you prefer). I try to play my guitar, exercise, go out and see music or theater. My main activity if I don’t have work that day is getting coffee from the gas station and driving around aimlessly listening to the radio. I drive an electric car (Chevy Bolt) so I don’t feel guilty about putting on the miles. One day I’ll go work on an ashram or take a cooking class. Nah probably not.

Why you tryna make me cry Jennifer? Pretty sure I always did yes. Like since I was a toddler. I was not in any way a “performing” child (my mother described me as stoic) but for some reason I wanted to be an actor. No idea what I first experienced that made me feel that way. I choose to believe I was sent by aliens to serve the theater gods. I never take for granted the fact that I get to.

Did you ever have a struggle period as an actor before making it? If so, what was that time like? Did you have odd jobs?

I dunno if I thought of it as a struggle, Sandy; I just assumed that’s how the journey went. I had all the jobs. I worked the overnight shift at a gay porn theater on the West Side highway (stamping hands, sweeping up cigarette butts. Lasted a week). I worked in a warehouse scraping price tags off of textbooks with my bare hands (no tools. That one was 2 weeks). Quit my last day job (actually another overnight shift) as a bellboy at the Royalton Hotel when I was 24. I was in a couple plays that had long runs and I lived a fairly spartan life.

Thanks for having me Bethany! And for those nice words. I read a bunch of things, I watched a bunch of things, I talked to a bunch of people… I tried to get my body in an appropriate place for that character… and of course mostly I just lived with the text. I don’t have to tell you it’s one of the plays of our time. The thought of playing that part with those people was overwhelming to say the least. I spent the year we shot it in a state of perpetual freak out. But I’m endlessly grateful that I somehow was allowed to hitch my wagon to it.
