NETWORKING : KNOWLEDGE : LEADERSHIP
We want to be an employer of choice for the best female talent and our Stanley Black & Decker Women’s Network (SBDWN) is our foundation to make this happen. We want to hire and collaborate with top women in every business, function and region. We provide women at Stanley Black & Decker with an environment where they are empowered to pursue career ADVANCEMENT opportunities, achieve LEADERSHIP positions, and have access to resources to support their PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT.
What is the emphasis on attracting, retaining, developing, engaging, and retaining women, in particular?
We think that the “business case” for hiring and retaining women is clear. Many studies suggest that diverse teams are more innovative – and more successful in implementing these innovative ideas – than homogeneous teams. Gender is one aspect of diversity, but it’s a critical one: research would again suggest that, on average, women tend to bring different leadership & teaming styles and different perspectives to the table than their male colleagues.
What role do men play in SBDWN?
Gender diversity is a strategic priority for Stanley Black & Decker supported by our leadership team. Men make up a significant part of that leadership team and they directly manage, interact, and influence women every day. We recognize that we will not be successful if we have only women focused on retaining women and as such partner to achieve the goal of becoming an employer of choice of the best female talent.
We need our women to feel inspired, supported, and able to envision success as they are doing their jobs every day. To do that, we need our men as invested as our women. We invite men to our executive briefings and encourage dialogues about gender diversity in our leadership meetings.
The SBDWN hosts events that range from formal & informal mentoring to fundraising efforts to professional collaborations. Check out how a few of our global chapters are making a splash in the community and the organization this summer:
