There are days when being a woman feels like a burden. Like we’re shackled with the weight of the world and no-one ever seems to give us a break. And as a woman living in the Middle East, I’m grateful for the sense of security but sometimes also driven by the passion of doing whatever the heck I want.
I’ve kept my eyes and ears peeled for every change that President Trump has done during the last few weeks, and they’ve all been reminiscent of times that we’d rather keep in tragic history books that even now barely seem empowering. And here I thought, that the world had come a long way…
With a heavy heart, I must admit, the reality really sinks my heart, not just as a woman, but as a human.
America has always been a trendsetter, so generalizing women’s roles, subjecting them to chauvinism and above everything else, ordering them what to do with their bodies; these are not the reasons why the world looks up to the Nation.
I’m afraid not just for the women who reside in a country where the commander-in-chief thinks it’s okay to touch a woman without consent; but also how this affects each and every country that reflects the ideologies or political voice of America. So when I raise my voice and ask you to listen, you MUST. Women deserve Equal Rights, Equal Pay and Equal Representation in the White House. That is just the beginning, because they also deserve to be celebrated, along with the rest of the humanity. Because right now, the only thing President Trump has generalized is hate, bigotry, gender discrimination; everything that is against the very fibre of what a democracy stands for.
There is a genuine lack of knowledge in the man; the facts he shares and the foundation of his ideals and beliefs. I’ve empathized for his need to protect America against the intentions of radicalizations but ripping apart homes and lives of people who’ve lived, learned and contributed to its economy is not just unfair, it is a violation of Human Rights. This will lead to a future where disrespect, hate and name-calling will be an average day’s news, a future where I would never want to raise a daughter, or a son.
My urge to everyone reading this is to keep voicing their opinion; if not against but directed to President Trump, so humanity worldwide could see and feel hope again. Let’s fight radicalization with intelligent schemes that put citizen happiness and wellbeing at the forefront at any costs, inclusive of all races. America is and always will be looked up by the world, so let’s make it worth their while, shall we?
