Just a few weeks ago when I was sitting in one of my favorite coffee shops in Amman, I realized that I may be public enemy number one for the President of the United States. How I managed that can only really be summed up into one *shrug* emoji.
According to President Trump, there are five elements of my existence that really makes his hair flip in the air, the tan on his face turn a blistering blood-orange and his lips purse like there is no tomorrow.
I am a woman. I am a journalist. I am Iranian. I am a child of immigrants. I am passionate to help refugees.
How about that?
But you know what I am not? The enemy.
But it seems that if we follow his heinous algorithm he's formulating for the United States, I will need to sleep with one eye open. Every night. At least until the next election cycle, because he's painting me to be like the bad guy in every movie that no one can stomach.
I still remember the day Trump was announced the winner. Confusion fill the air everywhere and within my closest girlfriends, tears were shed. We Had no idea what was in store for us in the next few years.
In that moment "us" really meant women. How quickly that exclusive group would grow to include immigrants, let's not forget his consistent hate for to the press (and press freedom for that matter), Iranians (give me a break, are we being punk'd" again?) and all those affected by the visa ban including refugees.
Who is left?
Really, I want to know. He's basically throwing a tantrum against 90% of the American population. I know tantrum sounds childish, but I choose this term for good reason (insert *shrug* emoji).
Today, I promise to do my part as I write this post to join the other women in this movement.
Donald Trump, you can #ReadMyLips: I am NOT the enemy.
Today, I make my commitment to use my elements that you've drafted to be the problem, instead to be used for the empowerment of women globally, reinstating compassion for those you want to ban from this country and promote change to help "make America whole again."
