A late night party is not the time or place for your average, day-to-day basic makeup routine. It’s the perfect opportunity to flaunt your best, most dramatic look instead. Prepping your face properly ahead of time is key here, because it allows for the most professional application possible. So be sure to stick to a thorough skincare routine before you get glammed up for the evening. Wash your face, moisturize accordingly, and prime your face for the night ahead. Before amping up the drama, apply your go-to concealer, foundation, CC cream, or BB cream.
Once you’ve got the facial pre-game under control, try these seven makeup ideas (one at a time or all at once - totally your call) so you’re ready for a night to remember.
- A new spin on the smoky eye
Sure, there’s nothing new or revolutionary about a smoky eye. It’s been a classic, flattering style staple of eye makeup for years. But what about going beyond the usual charcoal-y look? Try using a metallic shadow or varying shades of purples or blues to really make your smoky eye sizzle.
- Sparkles, sparkles everywhere
“She leaves a little sparkle wherever she goes” is what party guests will be saying once they lay eyes on your glowing look. Glitter powder is making a comeback in a big way, and not just when it comes to eyeshadow. Try dabbing a little to highlight your cheeks, or go really glam and add a touch of glitter to your favorite lip color.
- Forget black, try neon eyeliner
Feeling a little funky? Well lucky for you, the neon trend is far from over when it comes to makeup and fashion. Instead of lining your eyes with your go-to black eyeliner, try a neon blue or pink for that perfectly winged eye. Go easy on the lipstick to balance out your look, add some statement jewelry and you’re good to go!
- 50 shades of matte lipstick
Now here is where the party really begins. A bold lip is the easiest, most effective way to punctuate your party look. A matte lip color really brings the drama along with an air of sophistication that a glossy lip just can’t quite reach. Whether you’re into deep berry shades, coffee browns, or a classic, ravishing red, a matte lip is the perfect party accessory. Be sure to prep and line your lips accordingly beforehand, and choose a long-lasting, smear-proof color and you’ll be ready to go all night long.
- All about the drama
Feeling extra adventurous? You can add a flair of drama to your party look by extending your smoky eye color underneath your eye as well. Applying a few extra coats of mascara than you normally would also accentuate your dramatic look. Eyes that bring the drama are also best accentuated by groomed, filled-in brows. Don’t be afraid to step up your game when it comes to your late-night look!
- Amp up the contour
Afraid of contour? Think you won’t be able to nail that chiseled, Kardashian look? Have no fear. Contouring is easier than you think, and you don’t need to break the bank when it comes to brushes and supplies to do it. Take a blush brush (or a medium-sized angled brush), and dab it in a light shade of powder. Lightly dust the center of your forehead, the tip of your nose, and the tip of your chin in the light shade. Also brush it gently under your eyes. Then take your bronzer and load up your brush, dusting the length of the top of your forehead (where sun would normally hit your face), underneath your cheekbones, along your jawline, and the sides of your nose.
If you think you look like you belong in the circus, it’s okay! Take a powder blending brush and gently blend everything in, moving your brush downward in circles. Once blended, you’ll have achieved the perfect party contour!
- Set your night off with the right spray
After all that work, you’d better not leave your makeup to fall victim to sweat and typical wear-and-tear! Find a good setting spray, and lightly spritz your face so your amazing look (and all your hard work) lasts the whole night long!
