Here, we would like to share a few tips that will make your yoga teacher training practice as smooth as possible.
The training schedule for yoga teachers can be very compact and packed. Trying to learn the sheer amount of knowledge to become a super qualified teacher at the end of the training means to fit in as much as one can in the allotted amount of sessions. Much like everything else in life, a crammed schedule means time is of utmost essence! Plan your schedule well ahead. One needs to synchronize oneself between lectures, yoga classes and so on to study, practice, rest and recuperate. This could be the most important thing to do during training, as with proper time management alone can you avoid overwhelming yourself!
Almost all teacher trainers continuously advocate hydrating your body. Especially with the training for hot yoga, you will be sweating a lot more than usual because of the humid environment (particularly Asia). So it is of utmost importance that you keep yourself hydrated. A bit of advice: add a bit of lime juice and a pinch of salt to your drink so that you replenish your body with essential minerals. While we sweat, we lose electrolytes and by simply drinking this combination, we can replenish all of them. Always carry a water bottle around, no matter where you are to stay hydrated – you’ll be definitely needing it!
Pay Attention to your body.
With the compact and packed nature of training, your body is sure to turn sore after a few days. It’s essential that you listen to signals from your body and stay within your limits. Keep in mind that it’s a long distance marathon, not a sprint around the track. Training sessions take a month or so, so make sure your health is in check. Improve your endurance by paying attention to yourself: physically, mentally and in every way possible! Realize your limits and get some down time as you need.
In the training, you will be practicing lots of poses with significant movement. You will be exhaustively tested by them and after a few sessions, you will be teaching the same poses. So prepared by training hard and not procrastinating! It may not be as easy at the start, but as with most things, it will come through in time. Ensure you put in the extra effort to learn as much as you can to be extra prepared for teaching others! Remember, the better equipped you are, the less your nerves are likely to fail you. Its not about sweating the small stuff…, it’s all about small stuff!
Attending yoga teacher training sessions on an island paradise is a cherished dream for most of us. Don’t lose sight of that target amidst all the training! It’s sure to be an amazing experience that you will hold onto for a lifetime. You are sure to make lifelong friendships and connections through sweat, laughter and tears. So enjoy your time, because before you know it, it will be all over. Make the most of your time!
