Hi, I'm Emme!

I'm most known for being the world's very first curvy supermodel. I'm also a TV personality, mom, author, brand spokesperson, creative director of my own clothing lines and lecturer.

Lastly, I am a globally recognized women’s advocate for positive body image
and self-esteem. My message as an advocate is clear: to awaken the inner magnificence inherent in each of us, to be whole.

As an advocate, I was the first model to be invited to speak before a Congressional subcommittee in Washington, D.C. with a mission to increase public awareness of eating and body image disorders. I've made media appearances to speak on the issue as well, including on the Today Show, Good Morning America, CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, among many others.

Some fun facts about me are that I have been on People Magazine’s "50 Most Beautiful People" list and was honored as one of Glamour magazine’s "Women of the Year". On January 1st, I launched my fifth book called Chicken Soup For The Soul: Curvy&Confident: 101 Stories of Loving Yourself and Your Body. On January 17th, I'm launching EmmeStyle, the women's empowerment girlfriend gabfest pick me up podcast with AdLarge Media.

Some other fun facts about me are that I LOVE the snow and snowshoeing and would invite anyone to come and join me in Central Park any day of the winter for a fun snow filled jaunt, just as long as we can have hot chocolate or apres ski libation afterward!

I love spas, massages, steam rooms after being in the snow and all things foot rubs. I'm dyslexic so don't jump into a car and shout out directions, we will get into an accident if I'm driving!

Now's your chance to ask me anything! Please write your questions in the comments section below and I'll answer the questions live on Monday, January 9th at 3pm ET.

Hi Bethany, the best aspects of being a model were the locations I would travel to, meeting incredibly creative people, and making good money! The downsides: the brutal competition between the girls for the jobs, the prejudicial attitudes of a few within the industry and being alone at these incredible locations half way around the world in your hotel room.

Hi Tiffany! Thank you so much! I was honored the Chicken Soup For The Soul publishers felt Curvy & Confident should become a reality when I went and met with Amy Newmark about writing it with her and our co-author Natasha Stoynoff. Once we agreed we wanted to write an uplifting and empowering book for women, we put out the ask to thousands of writers, women's groups and online advocates to share their stories, and did they ever. Thousands of them. Yes, choosing only 101 made it very difficult but validated how much women wanted to share their stories and to be heard.

The one tip I give parents wanting to get their child into the industry is not to. I say to anyone just out of college to ask themselves why they want to model and if it's not to make money to walk away. If anyone says "to be validated as beautiful" or " my Mom and Dad wanted me to" I say walk away. The industry will eat you up and spit you out if you don't know what you're bringing to the table and if you don't have the best representation. The industry is widening it's aperture in what is beautiful but the workings still are pretty tough for the meek.

What was the biggest challenge in becoming a model? How hard was it to change the way the industry portray women? I'm so glad to know you're changing the world!

Hi Audrey, consistently using my voice and showing up at work with a happy attitude helped and whenever possible including my girlfriends in the press and shine that was coming my way showed everyone that there were beautiful women from all backgrounds in a variety of sizes reflecting the beauty around us as a nation. Doing anything really big is not a one person job. I had an amazing publicist Sarah Hall -- she worked very hard putting me in front of the entertainment industry in a way that didnt scream that I was "bigger" just a new gal with a fresh attitude in town.

Dear Mom On The Move, Thank you so so much for your kind words. How great was Meryl's speech? On the way home today from the city, I heard on a call-in radio show a woman tear Meryl's speech to pieces saying, "she didn't want to hear what an actress' political standpoint was and that she should stick to acting. "I was slack-jawed. Clearly not on the same page as most of us here. I felt Meryl's speech couldn't have come at a better time and what she said was sadly so true.

It can be hard to maintain a good self-image sometimes. I go through ups and downs when it comes to confidence. Is there anything you recommend when you are in low moments and are looking side to side too much instead of focusing on your own path and the gifts you've been given? Do you have days of self doubt?

Hi Maddy, you are so not alone! I do go through times that if I'm not aware, take me to the depths which is absolutely not necessary. I've worked on training myself to snap back to gratitude which I suggest working on like a Pavlovian dog. Because no issue is worth ruining a complete week..really. When we have so much going in our lives (if you write down a list of all the positives you'll actually see them unfold before you) we begin to understand no one's grass is greener and everyone has tough stuff to deal with. Also getting physical takes me out of my head...getting out for a walk day or night will clear a dark cloud over my head very quickly, also a nice call to a good friend who validates your feelings then holds you accountable after a period of time is good too! Most importantly, go help someone REALLY going through a rough patch, be it a person or group you know or charity. Nothing like a dose of reality to snap us back to a place of gratitude.

Hi Jennifer, I try not to have resolutions only at the start of the year, more like a list that I keep going to month after month, keeping all things as consistent as possible, including phone calls to family and friends! Top of the list is to keep moving! Second is to eat when Im hungry, and when I do, with the best choices available to me. This way I can maintain my shape and figure on a year to year basis, give or take a pound her or there.
